The physical characteristics of pig make it sensitive to the effects of high ambient temperatures. Heat stroke and other forms of heat stress constitute a significant problem in swine production systems. Economic loss due to heat stress occurs on account of reduced and inconsistent growth, poor sow reproductive performance, increased morbidity and mortality and decreased carcass value.
