Ramadan fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam and an obligation imposed on the servant by Allah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you. So that you may guard (against evil). [Surat al-Baqara: 183]

Virtues of Ramadan:

1 - In the month of Ramadan, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed. During this month Satan is kept in chains and the motivation to do good is awakened in the hearts of people. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘When Ramadaan enters, the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the Shaytaan is chained.’ (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

2- There is Laylat al-Qadr in the month of Ramadan, about which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
Laylat al-Qadr is better than a thousand months. [Surah Al-Qadr: 3]

And Allah will forgive the past sins of the person who observes Laylat al-Qadr with the firm belief of attaining Chawab and in the hope of Allah's pleasure. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever observes Laylat al-Qadr with the firm belief of attainment and in the hope of pleasing Allaah, Allaah will forgive him all his past sins.’ (Narrated by Muslim)

3- Ramadan is the month of Quran. The glorious Qur'an was revealed in this month. So it is necessary to recite more and more Quran this month.
