Find out the time taken by the baby to complete any 10 movements (baby kick, roll, flutter, etc.). Baby should complete 10 movements within 2 hours. In most of the cases, you will notice it even before 1 hour. And this is termed as the normal fetal movement count.

By the end of the second trimester, your baby movements become more noticeable. Your doctors advise you to monitor your baby’s movements to check its well-being. Monitoring is done by counting the daily fetal movement also called as Baby Kick Counting.

The simplest way how this can be done is by using the count-to-10 method (the CARDIFF method). It usually recommended by the doctors to start counting kicks around 28 weeks into pregnancy.

For the first time mothers, you won’t notice the baby kicking until you are closer to 25 weeks. Your baby will be moving, but you just can’t distinguish them.
In the case of second and third-time mothers, babies usually start kicking by 18 weeks.
You can start counting as soon as you notice regular movements but counting after 28 weeks is very much essential.

By counting the baby movement even once per day, every day and comparing it with the standard fetal movement, one can get a fair idea about the well-being and development of the baby.
The change in the movement might give an early indication that there might be some problem .
The fetal movement counts also help you to identify the sleep-wake cycle of your baby. Remember, even if your baby’s counts are decreased, you may still go on to have a healthy baby.

A kick or a flutter or a roll or a rub against your tummy or any other noticeable movement is considered as a kick and should be counted.

The joy or excitement a mother feels when they first experience their baby move is beyond explaining. It is like a new world has opened up for just the two of them. It builds a bond that only a mother can truly savour.
