The War of the Worlds
It first appeared serial in 1897, and was published simultaneously in Pearson Magazine in the United Kingdom and Cosmopolitan Magazine in the United States. It was first published in book form by William Heinemann in London in 1898. The novel is based on the narration of the first man of the hero (unnamed) who lives in Surrey as well as his younger brother in London, and narrates the story of Earth being invaded by Mars. Written between 1895 and 1897, the novel is one of the earliest stories detailing the conflict between humans and races outside Earth. It received a lot of commentary that rarely happened with other science fiction works.

The novel consists of two parts, the first book: the coming of the Martians and the second book: The Earth under the rule of the Martians. The narrator is a philosophical author, who fights to return to his wife as he sees the Martians turning the London countryside into ruin. The first book also recounts the experience of his brother, who was also not named, and describes the events that are deteriorating in the capital, forcing him to flee the Martian attack before boarding the ship near Tillingham on the coast of Essex.

The story has been linked to the conquest literature at the time. It has been variously interpreted as talking about evolutionary theory, British imperialism, Victorian myths, fears and prejudices. It was categorized at its time of publication as a science romance, like his earlier novel The Time Machine. The novel achieved great popularity, as it ran out of print, and was adapted in several films, radio plays, albums, various comics and television series, as well as sequences and parallel stories from some authors. It even influenced the work of scholars, in particular Robert Goddard
