Since the enactment of Law No. 33/2014 on Halal Product Guarantee, since October 17, 2019, Halal Product Guarantee will be held by the Ministry of Religion's Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH). This is in accordance with the mandate of Law 33 of 2014 concerning JPH. The enforcement of halal certification obligations starting October 17, 2019, is carried out in stages.

The first stage, this obligation will be applied first to food and beverage products, and service products related to both. The certification process will take place from 17 October 2019 to 17 October 2024.

The second stage, the certification obligation will apply to other than food and beverage products. This second phase starts on October 17, 2021 in a different time frame. There are 7 years, 10 years, some 15 years.

The Ministry of Religion's Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) was formed in 2017 and will work on the Implementation of Halal Certification Services (PLSH). Applications for halal certification from various regions can be made online and connected with other interested actors.

The application for a halal certificate must be accompanied by the following documents: data of the business actor, name and type of product, list of products and materials used, product processing. The application for a halal certificate is also accompanied by a halal guarantee system document.

With the new regulation on halal product certification, all applications for halal certification of products are submitted to the Ministry of Religion BPJPH, no longer to MUI. BPJPH will verify the product. The results of the verification then BPJPH conveyed to MUI to determine the halalness of the product. MUI determines the halalness of products in the Halal Fatwa Session.
