The Children's Emergency Care app provides just-in-time information for doctors and other professionals who need to care for critically ill or seriously injured children. The information is presented visually and textually for rapid knowledge transfer in urgent situations. To optimize the use of the app under these conditions, the emphasis is on the most essential information for taking the right first steps in the golden hour of reception, and consultation with an experienced clinician is always recommended.
The app is made for the Dutch practice. Where possible, use has been made of national guidelines and protocols, which have been made or are endorsed by the scientific associations. For situations for which there are no national guidelines or agreements yet, we propose treatments based on expert opinion and best practice in emergency medicine. These treatments have been developed in close consultation with expert clinicians in pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and pediatric and trauma surgery.

An app is not a substitute for other more extensive works in the field of emergency medicine for children, such as the book Advanced Pediatric Life Support: the Dutch Edition, other textbooks or local evidence-based protocols. For full background information, the reader is referred to the most recent national and international guidelines and advice. The app is also not intended to be a textbook in the preparation for classroom instruction like the APLS or EPALS courses. It does have a place in quickly refreshing and updating knowledge between repeated workouts. The app is made for intramural use. Although basic principles of emergency medicine are applicable everywhere, pre-hospital and primary care adjustments will sometimes be required due to limitations in these settings.

Although the utmost care has been taken in compiling and processing all data, the authors cannot be held liable for damage resulting from any errors or other inaccuracies in this app.
