Dengue has become a serious public health problem in our country. The World Health Organization estimates that three billion people are at risk area for contracting dengue in the world and that every year occur 50 million infections, with 500,000 cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and 21,000 deaths, mainly in children.

In Brazil, since 1986 dengue epidemics have occurred in major urban centers of the country, with about 3 million cases. It has seen an increase in the severity of cases. In the period 1990-2006, there were 6,272 cases of DHF, particularly in adults with the occurrence of 386 deaths.

And often the difference between a good outcome or is in the wrong management of the disease. In 2011, the Ministry of Health brought together experts from around the country to draw up a document whose purpose would be to serve as a guide to a correct diagnosis and clinical management of this dreaded disease.
