Al-Muddaththir (Arabic: ٱلْمُدَّثِّر, "the Cloaked One" or "the Man Wearing a Cloak") is the 74th surah (chapter) of the Qur'an, with 56 ayat (verses).
Chronology:
Many well-known authors' chronologies, including that of Ibn Kathir, place Surat al-Muddassir as the second surah revealed to the Islamic Nabi) (Prophet) Muhammad, citing the hadees:
Jabir ibn Abd Allah told, I heard the Messenger of Allah – and he was narrating about the pause in Revelation – so he said in his narration: "I was walking, when I heard a voice from the heavens. So I raised my head, and there was an angel, the one that had come to me at Hira, sitting upon a chair between the heavens and the earth. I fled from him out of fear, and I returned and said: "Wrap me up! Wrap me up!" So they covered me. Then Allah, Most High revealed: "O you who are wrapped up! Arise and warn." Up to His saying: "And keep away from the Rujz!" before the namaz was made obligatory.
Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, etc. Although reports exist of revelation order other than second, the thematic elements of preparation for the Day of Judgment and warnings for the non-believers are consistent with other early Meccan suras. According to Sayyid Qutb's exegesis, the first verses of this surah as well as those of Surah 73 represent the Prophet’s earliest revelations and those which prepare him for the ordeal of revelation.
1. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) said: Whoever recites Surah Mudasir would get reward ten times the number of those who acknowledged the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.) or disbelieved in him in Mecca.
Surah al-Mudathir (The Clothed One)
This Surah was revealed in Makkah and it has 56 ayaat. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) has said that the person who recites this Surah in his compulsory prayers will attain a rank near the Holy Prophet (S) in the hereafter and will be protected from any misfortunes in this world.
If this Surah is recited daily and then a dua is made after its recitation, then the dua will be answered and the need will be fulfilled. If one makes dua that he wishes to memorize the whole Al-Qur’an then he will not die until he has memorized it.
Whoso recites this surah in obligatory salah Allah creates love of the Holy Prophet in his heart and treats him as one of the close friends of the Holy Prophet; and he would not face any trouble in the life of this world.
ii) Whoso recites this surat would get reward ten times the number of those who believed in the Holy Prophet or disbelieved in him.
iii) Whoso recites regularly this sorah and at the end beseeches Allah to give him the memory to learn the holy Mushaf by heart, Allah would grant him such a memory to memorise the holy Quran before he dies; also whatever he seeks from Allah, He would fulfil his lawful desires.
If one makes dua that he wishes to memorize the whole Qur’an then he will not die until he has memorized it.
Structure:
Surat al-Muddathir is structured thematically and chronologically. Containing 56 total verses, this surah was most likely revealed on at least two different occasions and compiled retroactively. Verses 1-30 and 32-56 are composed of short, poetic lines which maintain rhyme structure and the Arabic rhetorical device of parallel construction. This is consistent with the verses of the early Meccan / Makki period.
