The Long Shadow or My Long Legged Dad is a novel by American author Jane Webster. The story revolves around an orphan girl named Judy Abbott, who gets a scholarship to study at Lincoln High School by someone she does not know. His pseudonym is John Smith. . The only return Smith stipulated for Judy for the grant was that she would write to him once a month, without necessarily expecting a response to her letters.
The story details three years of Judy's life, from leaving the orphanage to her high school graduation. The story revolves around the novel's most important characters:
Judy Abbott: She is an intelligent and cheerful girl whose parents passed away when she was a little girl and she grew up in an orphanage where she developed her talent for writing, one of her articles catches the attention of John Smith (the owner of long legs) and leads to her getting a scholarship from him to Lincoln High School where she gets to know her two friends Sally McBride and Julia Pendleton.
