What does LGBT mean?

The acronym LGBT refers to both a collective and a movement of social demands, whose letters mean: Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender. These last words refer precisely to people who are assumed and recognized as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

Although the history of this movement is older, the LGTB concept became popular especially from the 1990s. Among other things, it has allowed the term “gay community” to be replaced, although it was demanding and very important at the time; it had also silenced other identities and sexualities.

Within the framework of these demands, other struggles and identities have also been added. From this the letters of the term LGBT have increased. For example, the letter "T" has been added, which refers to transsexuality; the letter “I” that refers to Intersex, and the letter “Q” that refers to people and the “Queer” or “Cuir” movement, Spanishized.

International LGBT+ Pride Day is commemorated every June 28. On the same date but in 1969 the Stonewall riots broke out in New York, which marked the beginning of the fight for the rights of this community.

There are more and more movements that fight to defend the rights of the LGBT community. Historically, its members have suffered discrimination, persecution and attacks of all kinds, a reality that, little by little, has been changing in recent years, although not completely.

It is important that we all show solidarity so that attacks and disrespect towards people do not continue to be repeated simply because they do not have a particular sexual orientation.

Being part of the LGBT community is not a decision, it is not made for fashion or for an ideological question, but rather it is something that we discover during our development as we get to know ourselves better.

We have included some categories such as:
