CER is an acronym for European Waste Catalogue.

Directive 75/442/EEC defines the term waste as follows: "any substance or object in the categories set out in Annex I which the holder discards or intends or is required to discard." Annex I is commonly known as the European Waste Catalogue (EWC), and applies to all waste, whether for disposal or recovery. The European Waste Catalogue is subject to periodic revision.

The EWC codes are numeric sequences, consisting of 6 digits grouped in pairs (eg 03 01 01 waste bark and cork), aimed at identifying a refusal, as a rule, based on the production process from which it originated. The first group identifies the chapter, while the latter usually the production process.

The codes, in all 839, are inserted into the List of waste established by the European Union with the decisione2000/532/Ce.

The EWC codes are divided into non-hazardous and hazardous waste, the seconds are visually identified with an asterisk "*" after the digits (eg 02 01 08 agrochemical waste containing dangerous substances).

The danger of a refusal is determined by laboratory analysis to verify the possibility of exceeding threshold values identified by the Directives on classification, labeling and packaging of dangerous substances.

The procedure for the correct identification of the EWC codes to be given to waste is found in Appendix D of the Appendices to Part IV of Legislative Decree no. 152/2006.
This procedure must be applied very carefully, respecting the expected operating sequence.

"Environment and Waste" is an easy, practical and intuitive application, designed for everyday use and is a quick alternative to paper code.

All the EWC codes were enclosed in an application that allows you to have basic information such as the hazard characteristics of the "H" or codes of recovery "R" or codes of disposal "D".
