Old School Hip Hop MUSIC HISTORY:
Old School Hip Hop has gone through a major transition from where it originated from to the modern sound of today. It evolved into a distinct genre from R&B around the time that sampling and drum machine technology became available and affordable to the public. Most Old School Hip Hop generally follows the same composition:

- Stylized rhythmic sound
- Sampling of beats or bass lines from records and beat boxing
- Recite lyrics in either a structured or freestyle form

Most of Old School Hip Hop music took influence from the music of the previous generation (like funk and disco), and DJs and producers developed an underground style of music for the new dance culture.

This music, which developed in the 70s with inner city African Americans, began slow but flourished and it took many forms in the following decade. The term Dirty South is a blanket term for the genre of Old School Hip Hop that emerged in the 80s in Southern America as a response to the impact of West and East Coast Rap. The next few years saw the rise of gangsta rap that focused more on the violent and impoverished lifestyles if inner city youth.

Once the 90s hit, new school Old School Hip Hop replaced its old school Old School Hip Hop counterparts by creating shorter songs that could gain radio play. This helped establish Old School Hip Hop as a staple of mainstream music; and the rest was history.
