dpora is a stranger kind of chat app. It’s strange because it’s a different way of chatting with people. Instead of the traditional linear and chronological format, dpora uses colored squircles to represent different people (called dporians) and comments shortly vanish. The app is also of a stranger kind in the sense that it is primarily designed for chatting with strangers, and hopefully kind ones.

dporians get matched with other dporians from anywhere in the world. Instant, on-device translations* means everyone may read and write in their own native language! Up to 5 dporians can chat within the same group. Chat topics are provided although people may extend or change the topic depending on the group’s flow of discussion. Topic suggestions change when the majority of the group requests it, by tapping on the little yellow arrow.

There is the ability to mute too. A dporian may mute another’s comments if they are undesirable, however only one comment stream can be muted at a time. This is to encourage tolerance of multiple viewpoints and expressions. It is possible for an entire group to mute a single dporian if that dporian’s comments are undesirable to all.

dpora may be the most private chat app available! Since dporians do not know each other, many measures were taken to keep it that way. There is no registration process. Everyone is anonymous and comments disappear. New comments overwrite previous comments on the back end, so there is never a history of comments saved. And translations happen on the device* (they are not sent anywhere in order to get translated). You are free to speak your mind without worrying about a later backlash.**

As a security precaution, media streaming is not allowed and neither are file uploads. Common emoticons, though, are allowed. dporians must be at least 18 years old and use common sense when sharing. For example, never share your contact information!

Keep in mind, shorter comments are read more frequently than longer ones, and they all fade away fairly quickly. Therefore, be brief and respectful. Chat openly, have fun, learn, educate, express yourself and be social while remaining totally private and secure.

This app is free and contains no ads. Hooray!

* Translations occur only on the device and are powered by Google Translate. See https://cloud.google.com/translate for more information.
** It is beyond our control if your internet provider or government monitors your data. Use of a VPN may solve this if that is of major concern.
There are three new items in this release. (1) mute status is translated into your preferred language, (2) there is an ability to change groups and (3) a new stricter tolerance is implemented for bad actors. If someone gets silenced too many times, from too many people, they will be temporarily suspended from participating--a time out breather. Let's keep the discourse honest but respectful.
