This novel is the first work of the famous English writer "George Orwell", and was published in New York in 1934. The novel deals with various issues, both political (such as imperialism and racism) and psychological (such as feelings of inferiority and alienation), through its characters carefully woven by Orwell, highlighting their weaknesses and motives behind their actions. The novel takes place in "Burma" in the twenties of the twentieth century, when it was under the rule of the British Crown, and reflects the dark side of Britain's unjust rule of the countries subject to it at that time. The personalities range from the English, who were forced by circumstances to live far from their homeland, and the Burmese and Indians, who suffer from injustice, poverty, and ignorance, under foreign colonization of their country. The novel describes the corruption and imperial bigotry that viewed indigenous peoples as inferior, with a focus on John Fleury, a poor loner caught in the clutches of a system of government that undermines the best of human nature.
