São Paulo Futebol Clube is a Brazilian multi-sport club from the city of São Paulo, capital of the homonymous state. It was founded on January 25, 1930, having interrupted its activities in May 1935, and resumed in December of the same year. In football, it is one of the most successful clubs in Brazil, and among its main titles stand out three World Cups (absolute record at national level), three Copa Libertadores (national record shared with Palmeiras, Santos and Grêmio), one Copa Sudamericana, six Brazilian Championships and twenty-two Paulista Championships. As for international titles, São Paulo, with 12 victories, is the third club in South America with the highest number of trophies, behind only Boca Juniors and Independiente. With regard to the sum of official titles of national and international scope of Brazilian clubs, in January 2021, São Paulo figured as the greatest champion in Brazil, with eighteen victories. The association also has a tradition in sports other than football, such as track and field, in which its triple jump athlete, Adhemar Ferreira da Silva, was the country's first two-time Olympic champion (Helsinki Olympics in 1952 - in which he surpassed the record world championship in the sport – and the Melbourne Olympics in 1956). After Helsinki, Adhemar broke the world record in the sport for the second time, at the Pan American Games in Mexico in 1955. These records are represented by the two gold stars on the club's shield.
