Created to support literacy and and bring reading pleasure. The Book Bus contains 48 books from GAN Aschehougs reading programme Bokbussen RED and BLUE.

This app is in Norwegian but non-Norwegian speakers should be able to navigate successfully to the books and enjoy the reading experience. The books are divided into four reading levels; one book from each level is free.

The books in the programme are intended to support first reading training and more advanced reading. Pupils who have cracked the reading code or are about to do so, need a wealth of accessible reading material. With The Book Bus they get a small library to play with. There is a rich and exciting range of authors, illustrators and themes.

MULTIPLE LANGUAGES

The app can be used by all students, but is very well suited to bilingual education. It gives students of different linguistic backgrounds a unique opportunity to read the same literature.

The books are translated and read in the following languages:

English, Norwegian, Dari, Kurdish (Kurmanji), Somali, Pashto and Burmese.

The app can be used for individual reading, guided reading or as part of work stationswith the app shown on a smart board.

SIMPLE FUNCTIONALITY

Read yourself - Read to Me - Record - Hear yourself

Although all menu texts are in Norwegian, the functionality is simple and easily accessible. Children can turn the pages, and have the text read out for them, or they can read themselves, or even record their own voice and listen to it.

You swap languages once you've opened a book. Along the way, you can choose to switch to a secondary language, so that one sees and hears a translation of the book.

ABOUT THE APP:
• The books are developed by a group of educators and others with special expertise on early literacy.
• Supported by the Norwegian Education Directorate.
