After retirement a government servant continues to live according to the pension received by him. His family is still dependent on him. The monthly pension received by the family of a pensioner after his death due to social financial security is known as family pension. Family pension will be admissible at the rate at which the pensioner was getting monthly pension.

An employee receives monthly pension after completing his service life. It is basically a social security system. This pension is available only if the crucial minimum 25 years of life are spent in government work in a fair and orderly manner. A Government servant who commits a crime or voluntarily resigns from service before completing 25 years is not entitled to any monthly pension or gratuity. If a pensioner dies while being entitled to monthly pension, his family will also be entitled to this monthly pension for life at the same rate as his wife/husband or his disabled children.

Family pension is the pension which the family of an employee receives on a monthly basis if he/she dies while in service or receiving pension. Bangladesh government has provided this pension mainly for the financial security of the family in the absence of the employee or pensioner. In case of death of an employee while in service his family gets ex-gratia or gratuity or lump sum and fixed monthly pension also known as family pension.

Family pension is currently fixed at a minimum of Rs 3,000. As the basic pay of those who have retired in the past is low, their pension amount is also low, so the government has fixed its minimum ceiling at Rs 3,000. 1,500 will be eligible for medical treatment. But within ten years the pension difference is almost half for those who have retired. Before the issuance of pay scale, some are getting pension of 10,000 taka and some are getting 20,000 taka. However, the pensioner or family pension is benefiting as a result of re-establishment of Bangladesh Government Pension. Widows are left in dire straits as widow family pension is not restored.

An employee claims pension at the end of government service. It is necessary to have a clear idea about the calculation of Gratuity and Monthly Pension. Yes your office will calculate these but as a conscious employer every employee needs to have a clear idea for pension and gratuity calculation.

I work in government but many of us don't understand the pension calculation, today we will know the pension calculation in a simple way. The calculation is explained with the help of an example below.

Suppose you are Mr. Md. Mokched Ali, you are a grade 10 employee, your last basic salary ie Basic is only Rs. 28,810/=.

Accordingly, your lump grant will be: Basic × 18 on the last basic salary
Example, LAMP Grant, which will be received as a lump sum on commencement of Pension / PRL. 28,810 x 18 = Tk 5,13,180/= (However, it depends on the leave entitlement of the person. You will get the basic amount for the number of months of leave entitlement, but it is not more than 18 months.)
Gratuity: which you will get once upon completion of PRL.
Expected Basic Pay i.e. Basic Pay in PRL plus an increment that is Basic Pay (Basic × 90%) ÷ 2 = ( ) × 230
Let's clarify with an example: 28,810+one increment ie (30,260 x 90%) ÷ 2 = ( ) × 230 = ( ) >27,234 ÷ 2 = 13,617×230=31,31,910 /= Rs
Monthly Pension: (Last Basic Salary Basic x 90%)÷2=( )+1500 > Example: (30,260 × 90%) ÷ 2 = ( ) + 1500/-
27,230 ÷ 2 = 13,615+1500=15,115/=
You will get pension with medical allowance per month = Rs.15,110/= and two festival allowances per year at the rate of basic pay i.e. 13,615/- (increased rate if salary increases) and once at the rate of 20% of basic pay on Pahela Baisakh. Each festival allowance will be paid at the same rate as your monthly pension. If you are 65 years old, you will get medical allowance at the rate of Tk 2,500 per month instead of Tk 1,500.

Section 4.08 of the Government Servants Pension Simplification Order, 2020 clearly mentions the procedure for payment of unencumbered pension and pension arrears. If the pensioner is unable to withdraw the pension money for one year or more due to any reason and wants to withdraw it later, the application containing the reason for the pension not being withdrawn/arrears should be submitted to the office of the Chief Accounts Officer/Accounting Officer concerned.
