In 1920 Williams Country Club was carved out of the tall stands of Ponderosa Pines and the game of golf was brought to Williams, AZ. The historic club house, built in 1932 by the Members and local railway workers, is still cherished and in use today. Golf was played on native grasses and sand greens until 1990, when Gary Panks was hired to re-design the original 9 holes. The newly re-designed course, renamed Elephant Rocks at Williams, quickly earned the reputation of being the best 9 holes of golf in Arizona. Gary Panks returned to build the new 9 holes in 2000 and Elephant Rocks became a premier championship golf course. The ancient elephant shaped volcanic rock formations, for which the course is named, continue to guard the entrance of this beautiful golf course. The awe inspiring Grand Canyon, the history of the Old West, the lore of Route 66, and the iconic Elephant Rocks Golf Course all make Williams the ultimate Arizona destination.
