Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club opened its original Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed golf course in 1959 and the course was updated in 1987 under the supervision of "Gentleman Joe" Lee. In 2002, Mr. Jack Nicklaus was contracted to completely redesign the golf course at Royal Palm. Mr. Nicklaus and his team outdid themselves with a fantastic layout that our Membership enjoyed for over a decade. In 2013, the Club welcomed Mr. Nicklaus back, seeking advice on updating his 2002 design. Under his supervision, the Club re-grassed the golf course, installing Celebration Bermuda on tees, fairways, rough and green surrounds and re-grassed the greens with TifEagle Bermuda. All bunkers on the course were reconstructed with several being moved and a few added. All eighteen greens were excavated back to their original size and shape with several being altered to create a more challenging and enjoyable experience. The course re-opened in November 2014, with Mr. Nicklaus hitting the first shot off of the first tee. The fourth hole epitomizes this Nicklaus Signature Golf Course Design. This mid-length par-4 is a slight dogleg right with a large trap at the corner. Once in the fairway you have a daunting approach with a large lake that will collect any shots that fall short or left. The green itself is severely undulated and is guarded by a small pot bunker in front and a large bunker behind. A par or better on this hole requires two great shots that will test your ability and your nerves. With risk reward par fives, water features, strategically placed bunkers and large well protected greens, the golf course at Royal Palm is as scenic as it is challenging. The course ranges in yardage from 7,116 yards from the back tees to 5,011 yards from the forward tees and provides the Membership with an elite golf experience that can be enjoyed by players of all levels.
