The CSpark Research Geiger counter with a USB interface is a radiation detection device that can detect and measure ionizing radiation levels, such as alpha, beta, and gamma radiation, and it can connect to a computer or other devices via a USB port for data transfer and analysis. You can connect it to an android phone using an OTG Cable.

This device enables real-time monitoring of radiation levels, and the app also includes a Blockly based drag and drop programming interface to facilitate data collection.

Detector Tube: The hardware support various different tubes since the voltage output is adjustable. Tested with LND-712 and LND-716

High Voltage Supply: A Geiger-Muller tube requires a high voltage supply (usually in the hundreds of volts) to create an electric field within the tube, enabling the detection of ionizing radiation. This voltage is generated internally within the device, and can be configured by the app.

Signal Processing Circuitry: The electrical pulses generated by the ionization events in the detector tube are processed by internal circuitry. These pulses are typically amplified and shaped to make them more easily detectable. A signal output is also available on the hardware

Display: It shows the radiation level in counts per minute (CPM), counts per second (CPS) on the app, and also on a local display if available.

Audio Indicator: A small buzzer can be optionally added to the hardware.

Power Source: requires a 12 V adapter

Geiger counters with USB interfaces are valuable tools for professionals in fields like nuclear science, environmental monitoring, emergency response, and radiation safety. They enable the collection, analysis, and monitoring of radiation data with the convenience of computer connectivity and data storage.
