Hi, kids! Let me tell you the story behind my first official game, Greedy Little Monkey.

It began as a small action game to help me learn making games. It was actually just a test, before moving on to bigger things. That's why I tried a platform game - it didn't seem too hard to make - but without platforms and jumping and big levels, because that was more difficult for a programming beginner like me.

To make it interesting there is no jumping on 'enemies', but you can dodge obstacles or bounce them away with your butt. I think my initial limitations actually made my game more unique than a typical platform game.
After playing around with the concept for a while, my little jungle game, about a monkey chasing money and eating many a banana, was too much fun to just abandon. So I improved the graphics, added levels, music, power-ups and drew a funny unlock-able comic.

The comic's panels show all the stupid things a very human-like monkey would do with all that gold and cash. More than just buying bananas and stuffing his little jungle home! But of course, buying bananas is the first action a monkey would take.

Originally, my game idea was for a greedy politician or bank director to run around catching money, but my animal-loving girlfriend inspired me to use a monkey or ape instead. Because all kids and adults like apes and monkeys! The deal was sealed when I came up with the poo throwing and butt bouncing - that stuff would be just too disturbing if done by a guy in a suit.

I cheated a little bit: the monkey I designed looks very much like a Chimpanzee - which is an ape. But Chimpanzees are just so recognizable. Kids just love Chimps! I turned him into a monkey by making him smaller and giving him a big swinging tail.

More than two years of polishing later, version 1.0 was finally done. I even spent a lot of time making a funny promotional video featuring a Chimp hand puppet. We played with it like little kids. I hope you like it! Also, I hope you have lots of fun with this simple yet challenging action game.
