Prihatin Batu was established to serve the area between Sentul and Batu Caves in the northern outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a population of 219,132. Settlements belonging to the Batu region include Sentul.

The Batu area is 20 square kilometers and in terms of transport, the outskirts of Batu are currently served by stations KC04 - Taman Wahu, KC03 - Kampong Batu and KC02 - Batu Kentongmen commuter on the KTM Commuter 1 Seremban route.

At its southeast end, the road used to extend to Chow Kit, forming a crossroads with Jalan Pahang, Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. On 26 November 2014, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) renamed the section from Jalan Segambat intersection to Jalan Pahang intersection in Jalan Ipoh to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
