In this post, I am going to show you how to install SmartBoat (deprecated) on Windows PC by using Android App Player such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, Nox, KOPlayer, ...

All you need is an emulator that will emulate an Android device on your Windows PC and then you can install applications and use it - you see you're playing it on Android, but this runs not on a smartphone or tablet, it runs on a PC.

Step By Step Guide To Install SmartBoat (deprecated) using BlueStacks

  1. Download and Install BlueStacks at: https://www.bluestacks.com. The installation procedure is quite simple. After successful installation, open the Bluestacks emulator. It may take some time to load the Bluestacks app initially. Once it is opened, you should be able to see the Home screen of Bluestacks.
  2. Open the APK/XAPK file: Double-click the APK/XAPK file to launch BlueStacks and install the application. If your APK/XAPK file doesn't automatically open BlueStacks, right-click on it and select Open with... Browse to the BlueStacks. You can also drag-and-drop the APK/XAPK file onto the BlueStacks home screen
  3. Once installed, click "SmartBoat (deprecated)" icon on the home screen to start using, it'll work like a charm :D

[Note 2] about Bluetooth: At the moment, support for Bluetooth is not available on BlueStacks. Hence, apps that require control of Bluetooth may not work on BlueStacks.

This version is now deprecated and will not be developed further. A new version of SmartBoat is available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartboatnetwork.smartboat. Some features of this old version are not yet available in the new version however there are other features in the new version not available in this version. You can install both versions and run them simultaneously.

Display data from devices on your boat, e.g. Depth, Speed, Heading, GPS position, COG, SOG, Wind speed and angle, Log, VMG, Average speeds(Wind speed, STW, SOG). Sensors e.g. Air/Sea temperature, Air Pressure and Humidity, Heel and Pitch. Includes an Anchor Watch with audible alarm and a rudimentary AIS screen which will improve over time.

Connect to a SignalK server and/or and NMEA-0183 data stream via wifi and read important navigation data anywhere on your boat. Connect SmartBoat with www.smartboatnetwork.com for remote monitoring and see your boat's instrument data from anywhere in the world.

Display depth, speed and GPS position in various formats, display True, Magnetic and Apparent angles. Turn on night mode to preserve night vision. Swipe to view more instruments and customize the selection and order of instruments.

Note: SmartBoat does not support NMEA 0183 via UDP, only TCP is supported. An NMEA 0183 data stream source must provide the stream via websockets or raw TCP server. SmartBoat acts as a TCP client only not as a server.
