The importance of the book, the translation of which is offered to the attention of a respected reader, is determined by two circumstances: firstly, it contains a part of the Sunnah, the second most important after the Koran, the foundations of the doctrine of Islam, and secondly, this book is a summary of one of the most authoritative sets of hadiths, which deservedly occupies second place among them after the "Sahih" of Imam al-Bukhari.
Sahih Muslim, which includes 3,033 hadiths without taking into account different versions and the same messages transmitted in different ways, is widely known throughout the Muslim world. Since the huge volume of this work complicates its practical use, several of its abbreviated (mukhtasar) versions have been compiled, one of which is the work of Imam al-Munziri. This version includes 2,202 hadiths, the isnads of which have been reduced, while all the matnas, that is, the texts of the informational parts of the hadiths included in it, have been preserved unchanged, which allows the reader to get a completely adequate idea of the work of Imam Muslim.
