The Itivuttaka, of the Khudaka Nikaya (Khudaka Nikaya), is a collection of 112 short sutras, whose title is derived from the sentence "The Buddha preached like this" (Itivuttam). The practice is divided into four chapters: chapter one, chapter two, chapter three, chapter three and chapter four.
This sutra was combined by a laywoman named Khujjuttara after recounting the teachings of the Buddha, to Queen Samavati and other maids of King Udena, of Kosambi. The Queen could not leave the palace to go to the place where the Buddha lived to listen to the Buddha's teachings, so the Empress sent Ms. Khujjuttara to listen to lectures, memorize, and then return to the palace to tell her and 500 other concubines. Ms. Khujjuttara has an extraordinary memory and is very intelligent, skillful in teaching the Dharma, so the Buddha once praised that she was the First Thanh Van among female lay disciples (Sangha I.14). She is also a skilled teacher to guide the queen and other concubines in the practice of the Dharma. When the inner palace was caught in fire killing the queen and all the concubines, the Buddha said that all of them had attained liberation, at least the result of Entering Luu (Tu Da Hoan) - as recorded. in the Buddhist scriptures (Ud VII.10).
The name "Itivuttaka" was also used in the first classification of the nine classics of Buddhist scriptures (*), a classification that existed before the present-day Tripitaka Pali arrangement. It is difficult to know with certainty that today's Itivuttaka Pali is entirely the Itivuttaka featured in that classification. The Sino-Buddhist scriptures contain translations of Itivuttaka, often attributed to the translation of Xuanzang. This translation has many passages like the Itivuttaka Pali. The main difference is that Xuanzang's translation does not contain many scriptures in Chapter III and absolutely no Chapter IV. It is possible that these sections were gathered later in the Pali organ, but not in Sanskrit to translate into Chinese literature. It is also possible that Huyen Trang did not complete the translation as it was translated during the last months of his life.
The original history of the Buddhist scriptures Thus had many complicated problems because in the beginning, the sutras were only passed down orally over the centuries before being written on paper. However, this is one of the most popular Pali scriptures because it includes the teachings of the Buddha with many basic doctrinal topics - from simple to profound - in a clear form. clear, concise and direct.
