Mandarin Training Center, National Taiwan Normal University and Delta Electronics in Taiwan have developed a simple but powerful Android application to help foreign speakers learn simple phrases to introduce themselves in Mandarin Chinese.


"Hi, NiHao" for Android Smartphone application is designed for users to input simple details about themselves like name, date of birth, nationality and occupation. The application automatically builds Mandarin Chinese phrases, and allows you to learn the correct pronunciation of the Chinese sentence!

This functionality is not complicated and can easily be accomplished using the Google Translate API. The innovative feature of this application is that you can actually learn the correct pronunciation of the Chinese words!

Each phrase is displayed in English, Chinese characters and the phonetic pronunciation (hanyu pinyin) of the Chinese characters. Foreign speakers can click the 'Record' button to say the Chinese phrase. The algorithm compares the user's pronunciation to the correct pronunciation and scores your response on a scale of 0 to 100. You can continue to practice until your pronunciation is perfect!
