Surah Muzammil is the 73rd Surah of the Quran and has 20 verses. It is named after one of the beautiful names of the Prophet(p.b.u.h) and means wrapped or covered. Al-Muzammil takes its name from the reference to the Islamic prophet Muhammad, in his cloak praying at night, in the initial verses of the Surah. Many interpreters believe that “The Enfolded One” is a name for Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), used throughout the Quran.
In the beginning of this Surah, Allah prepares Muhammad for an important revelation. In preparation for this revelation, Allah relaxes the strict directive on night prayer. Muhammad is then instructed to be patient for the disbelievers will be punished in Hell, as epitomized by a story of Pharaoh’s/Fir-oun's punishment.
During the early revelations, Muslims were directed to pray at night and recite the Quran completely as the distractions of the day were minimized, but as more and more revelations came and the Quran grew, Allah relaxed his prior command of night prayers and it was directed to only recite the Quran that was feasible for you. This Surah, revolves around the main notion of how to recite the Quran, and do good in this world so you could achieve a higher place in Jannah in the afterlife.
