In this post, I am going to show you how to install University of Minnesota SALSA on Windows PC by using Android App Player such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, Nox, KOPlayer, ...

Below you will find a detailed step-by-step guide, but I want to give you a fast overview of how it works. All you need is an emulator that will emulate an Android device on your Windows PC and then you can install applications and use it - you see you're playing it on Android, but this runs not on a smartphone or tablet, it runs on a PC.

Step By Step Guide To Install University of Minnesota SALSA using BlueStacks

  1. Download and Install BlueStacks at: https://www.bluestacks.com. The installation procedure is quite simple. After successful installation, open the Bluestacks emulator. It may take some time to load the Bluestacks app initially. Once it is opened, you should be able to see the Home screen of Bluestacks.

SALSA (System for Automated Language and Speech Analysis) is an application for administering and collecting the results of cognitive test batteries such as picture description, picture naming, spontaneous narrative, and verbal fluency. The results of such tests can be assistive in assessment of conditions that affect cognition, including neurodegenerative disease and neurotoxic medications.

SALSA is designed for test administrators, and allows for selection of the project, subject, and visit before allowing the test administrator to hand off the device to a subject to respond to visual and audio stimuli.

SALSA uses a web service to administrate projects, subjects, and tests. The web service also receives the recordings made in tests in order to perform processing to determine analysis results.

This work was supported in part by grants from NIH – NINDS (R01NS076665), Alzheimer’s Association (DNCFI-12-242985), Geoffrey Beene Foundation Alzheimer’s Disease Challenge, and the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center Faculty Development Grant.
