The Douro Verde, located between the Douro wine region and the urban Douro, is distinguished by its undeniable richness of landscape, history and culture, punctuated by the unmistakable flavors of the local gastronomy and wines. Its territorial identity dates back about 5 thousand years.

This territory includes the municipalities of Amarante, Baião, Cinfães, Marco de Canaveses, Penafiel and Resende, with the Douro River as the uniting element.

These municipalities are spread over a total uninterrupted area of ​​1,252.63 km2. According to the Census carried out in 2011, the Douro Verde territory had 234,292 inhabitants, translating into an average population density of approximately 187 people/km2.

A very significant proportion of the geographical area of ​​this region is of low density, with vast extensions of a markedly rural nature, punctuated by several small urban centers corresponding to the county seats.

Despite its rural-based character, this sub-region is not far from very expressive urban centers, namely the Porto Metropolitan Area, as well as the Municipalities of Braga, Vila Real and Viseu, having excellent access to these centers of great dynamism. and social and economic relevance, since the northern part of the Douro Verde is crossed by the A4 motorway and is within walking distance of the A24. The proximity of Francisco Sá Carneiro airport and the Port of Leixões offers a very important complement to the movement of goods and people, a determining factor for a territory imbued with strength and vital energy at all levels.
