Support Base is a smartphone app designed to support frontline workers receiving clinical treatment for PTSD and other mental health conditions. The app includes core elements adapted from an evidence-based, gold-standard PTSD treatment program (UNSW Traumatic Stress Clinic).

Support Base is intended to enhance the client’s skill-building and understanding of face-to-face program content, through engagement with a range of psychotherapeutic components along with guidance from a skilled therapist. This app has been developed by leading mental health researchers with input from frontline workers and clinical psychologists.

As part of a blended approach, Support Base is designed to be used in combination with structured therapy delivered in person or via telehealth sessions. Work with your therapist to select activities to complete between sessions, then use the app to practice skills in your own time.

Support Base includes:
• Videos explaining key treatment concepts
• Interactive activities (including cognitive restructuring, exposure therapy and more) to help you develop skills for managing symptoms
• Grounding activities such as breathing and attention training exercises
• Links to additional help and support resources
• Goal-setting to record and track your treatment aims
• Ability to set reminders, save progress reports and send updates to your therapist

Currently, Support Base is only accessible to people taking part in a research study conducted by the Black Dog Institute and the University of New South Wales. We hope to make it more widely available soon.
