Long before starting his studies at the University of Arts Vienna Applied, the architect François Valentiny ever dreamed of visiting Brasilia, who considered the masterpiece of Oscar Niemeyer and the birthplace of modern architecture in the world. In 2008, while his office finished the Luxembourg Pavilion, his native country, the Shanghai Expo, he traveled to Trancoso to visit Sabine and Carlo Lovatelli friends, Brazilian Mozarteum's founders, who organizes classical and contemporary music shows.
"In the middle of paradise in a magical night, we met the owners of L'Occitane en Provence, Dominique and Reinold Geiger. We quickly realized we shared aspirations and love for this country, "recalls Valentiny. Music festival was born in Trancoso, and with it, the Theatre L'Occitane, which houses concerts. Valentiny filed architecture, Mozarteum Brasileiro with the artistic direction and management, and L'Occitane sponsored.
"The landscape of Trancoso is fabulous and the architecture should also be. But first, the design must meet the multifunctionality and acoustic requirements, "says Valentiny. With the background forms, from the first draft, the building was defined by the acoustic quality. Around the stage and audiences, shiny surfaces bring the sound to the interior. Valentiny has experience with buildings dedicated to music. In the 1980s and 90s, his office created some cultural centers in Luxembourg and a concert hall in Germany. In 2003, came the most important: the opera house in Salzburg. Called The House for Mozart, he gained much prestige and required complex project. "The Salzburg Festival is one of the most important in the world and requires perfect acoustics and huge logistics. It was when we established our expertise to theaters, "he says. In Trancoso, this technical quality was also applied - but what really draws the visitor's attention is the peculiar architecture. "The inspiration came from archaic buildings in South America," says Valentiny. Our history is even of great personal interest to the architect.
