CLIMArroz's central objective is to improve planning and decision-making based on the development of the crop and the behavior of climatic variables.

CLIMArroz provides you with information on the behavior of the climatic variables associated with the growth of rice in different areas of the country, and on the development of the main phenological events of rice cultivation (tillering-primordium-50% flowering and maturity).

The climatic variables include the average temperatures, solar radiation, evapotranspiration and precipitation that occur throughout the crop cycle (September to April), as well as the minimum temperatures on grass during spring, and the minimum temperatures of the air in the flowering stage. This information is presented in the format of tables and graphs, showing what is happening in the current harvest in comparison with the previous harvest and with the historical average for each zone (East, Center and North).

This App is a support tool for predicting the phenological events of INIA cultivars, showing the possible advance or delay of the cycles with respect to the historical average (more than 20 years), and its association with the main management variables relating these with the recommended handling information. The information is displayed in various associated formats through links that redirect you to the source (www.inia.uy).

How does it work? Through a simple menu, you select whether you want to show “Climate” or “Phenology”. Once the “Climate” tab is selected, a window opens where you must define the area of influence of the weather station in question (Treinta y Tres for the East, Tacuarembó for the Center and Salto for the North), the month of harvest and the climatic variable that we want to see. The information is displayed in graphs and charts format, further down the screen. If “Phenology” is selected, the meteorological station of the area of influence, the INIA cultivar and the date of emergence achieved in each situation must be defined. “Crop emergence” is understood when approximately 50% of the plants have their 1st leaf developed. The search shows the forecast of moments for the beginning of tillering, flowering primordium, 50% of flowering and physiological maturity for the current year and the comparison with the historical average. These results can be saved and remain in the “Favorites” tab, to facilitate subsequent user entries.

In addition to the information on phenological events, CLIMArroz includes the association of said events with management relevant to the crop, suggesting weed and disease control, coverage fertilization and irrigation management, among others, through “Alerts”. These alerts are triggered based on the registered “Favorites”, in which the moments in which the aforementioned phenological events will occur are planned.
