In this post, I am going to show you how to install NervousNet Competition Game on Windows PC by using Android App Player such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, Nox, KOPlayer, ...

Before you start, you will need to download the APK/XAPK installer file, you can find download button on top of this page. Save it to easy-to-find location.

Below you will find a detailed step-by-step guide, but I want to give you a fast overview of how it works. All you need is an emulator that will emulate an Android device on your Windows PC and then you can install applications and use it - you see you're playing it on Android, but this runs not on a smartphone or tablet, it runs on a PC.

Step By Step Guide To Play NervousNet Competition Game using BlueStacks

  1. Download and Install BlueStacks at: https://www.bluestacks.com. The installation procedure is quite simple. After successful installation, open the Bluestacks emulator. It may take some time to load the Bluestacks app initially. Once it is opened, you should be able to see the Home screen of Bluestacks.
  2. Open the APK/XAPK file: Double-click the APK/XAPK file to launch BlueStacks and install the application. If your APK/XAPK file doesn't automatically open BlueStacks, right-click on it and select Open with... Browse to the BlueStacks. You can also drag-and-drop the APK/XAPK file onto the BlueStacks home screen
  3. Once installed, click "NervousNet Competition Game" icon on the home screen to start playing, it'll work like a charm :D

The NervousNet Competition Games is a multiplayer game played using the sensors (light, accelerometer and noise) available on you mobile phone. This game is released as an open source project. Users can download the project from github and run their own server locally
The NervousNet Competition game is part of the Nervousnet research platform, a large-scale distributed research platform that provides real-time social sensing services as a public good. Existing Big Data systems threaten social cohesion as they are designed to be closed, proprietary, privacy-intrusive and discriminatory. In contrast, the Planetary Nervous System is an open, privacy-preserving and participatory platform designed to be collectively built by citizens and for citizens.

**Requirements**
1. Java should be installed on your PC / Laptop to run the server.
2. Android mobile phones to install the client app.

**How to run the competition:**

Step 1: Run the server.
a. Download a released version of the NervousNetCompetitionGame Project from
https://github.com/nervousnet-virtual-sensors/NervousnetCompetitionGame/releases
b. Unzip the files to a local folder.
c. Run the GameServer.jar file which is present inside the GameServer folder.


Step 2: Install the NervousCo Mobile app on the Mobile device.
a. Download the app from:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.ethz.coss.nervous.competition
b. Start the NervousNet Competition application.
c. Click on the "Settings" button to change SENSOR, TEAM, SERVER and PORT values.
d. Server IP can be viewed on the Website Interface shown in Step 3.
e. Port number is default 8080.


Step 3: Start the Server Website interface
a. Click on the index.html file inside the GameServerInterface folder.
b. Select type of sensor involved in the competition.
c. Server IP and Port number is shown, if the server in running on local machine.
d. Once 2 or more players are connected using the NervousCo Mobile App, click "START" to play and destroy your competition..:)

Allows read only access to phone state, including the phone number of the device, current cellular network information, the status of any ongoing calls, and a list of any PhoneAccounts registered on the device.
Allows an application to read from external storage.
