iSPEX water is a companion app for the iSPEX 2 smartphone spectropolarimeter, designed to facilitate the collection of accurate and standardized water color measurements for research purposes.
The app's intuitive interface allows users to easily capture high-resolution water reflectance spectra using their smartphone camera and the iSPEX 2 add-on. Once the data is collected, the app processes the spectra on a secure backend server, applying calibration coefficients and performing necessary calculations to derive accurate radiance and irradiance values. The generated data files are optimized for seamless integration with common remote sensing and GIS software packages, making it easier for researchers to analyze and utilize the collected data.
One of the key features of iSPEX water is its offline functionality, which enables users to collect data in remote locations without an internet connection.
The app automatically uploads and syncs the collected data with a cloud database when a connection becomes available, ensuring that no data is lost and facilitating collaboration among researchers worldwide.
The app also provides near real-time visualization of spectral data and radiance graphs, allowing users to quickly assess the quality of the collected data and make any necessary adjustments on the spot. By adhering to established scientific protocols for water color measurements, iSPEX water ensures that the collected data is reliable, comparable, and valuable for a wide range of research applications.
Whether monitoring coastal water quality, studying inland lake ecology, or ground-truthing satellite remote sensing data, iSPEX water offers a powerful and accessible tool for researchers and citizen scientists alike. By leveraging the capabilities of smartphones and the iSPEX 2 add-on, this app makes it possible to collect high-quality water color data with affordable and portable tools, contributing to a growing global database of standardized measurements.
