******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY OF COLLEGE MUSIC ********************

College radio, which is also called campus radio, student radio, or university radio, is a form of radio station administered by students of a certain university or educational establishment.

College radio involves the transmission of full-power FM or AM over the airwaves, but a lot of college radio stations also utilize closed-circuit or carrier current systems, or low-power broadcasting. Nowadays, college radio stations are also delivered through cable TV, terrestrial FM, mobile media apps, or live streaming over the internet.

In the United States, college radio has an extensive history, dating to as far back as 1920. Back then, Union College’s WRUC radio station was one of the firsts and it made some test broadcasts using the call sign 2ADD. Others followed suit and went on the air, particularly University of Connecticut’s WHUS in 1922, Rollins College’s WBDO in 1924, and WPRK on December 1952.

Aside from the United States, there are close to 30 college radio stations situated around the world (including Bangladesh, Canada, France, Nigeria, Norway, Israel, Denmark, India, and the United Kingdom, among others).
