The Algebra Adventures of Oscar is an educational game for algebra and general equation solving skills. It was made for children in between the third and sixth grade. Although the game gives kids the same kind of exercise they would find in school it brings a bright, colored and animated environment to study while playing. The game shows random exercises (in 4 different difficulty modes plus 1 other for random exercises with all difficulties), each with an equation. The player will have always 3 possible choices and only one is correct and Oscar will react happily or sadly to a correct or incorrect answer.
PARENTS and USERS: If you or your child find this game difficult to play you should know we have launched also "The Math Adventures of Oscar" whose purpose is to familiarize the player into playing with numbers and very simple equations (and less numbers appear on screen). "The Algebra Adventures of Oscar" assumes a somewhat comfort dealing with math written in numbers ("The Math Adventures of Oscar" shows quantities of fruit instead of equations).
A) DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
The game has 4 different difficulties plus an extra mode in which any of the 4 previous modes may appear. Generally speaking we do advise players to go to the next mode of difficulty once they see they can solve easily the mode they are on now. The description for the modes is the following:
Mode A: Equations appear with 2 or 3 parcels (a parcel may be a parenthesis with a sum or subtraction inside, or just a number) and it's equal to "x". No fractions appear in this mode.
Mode B: Equations appear with 2 or 3 parcels including fractions. The results in multiple choice may be decimals (although it will not exceed 0.01 so don't worry, numbers like 1/3, or 0.333(3) won't appear -> if they do please tell us because it's a bug).
Mode C: Here we have the equations of mode B but the "x" is no longer alone on the right side. It's in the middle of an equality.
Mode D: "x" appears in both side of the equation. In this mode is also possible for decimals to exceed precision of 0.01 (but nothing too scary).
B) PURPOSE AND FUTURE WORKS
We're hoping to develop a long series of "The Adventures of Oscar" educational games. If you have suggestions for learning exercises or relevant information towards the educational needs of your child please tell us about it. Maybe we can find better solutions for our future educational games.
