Yet Another Weather App – CAN
Weather at a glance, in the units you actually use.
YAWA CAN opens straight to what matters right now: current conditions, today's high and low, and a plain-language read on the rest of your day. Forecast data comes from Open-Meteo, with Canadian watches and warnings pulled directly from Environment and Climate Change Canada. No account, no ads, no subscription.
Right Units, Automatically
Canadian locations get °C, km/h and kPa. US locations get °F, mph and inHg. Everywhere else defaults to metric. You never set a preference — it follows the location you're looking at.
Current Conditions
Temperature, humidity, wind speed and gusts, barometric pressure, and sky conditions, refreshed on every open. Plus a feels-like reading based on Open-Meteo's apparent-temperature model, which factors in humidity, wind and sun.
Forecast
Daily highs and lows, precipitation chance, and conditions for the days ahead — choose how many days the card shows. Tap any day for an hourly temperature chart and a detailed look at that day. After dark, the main screen switches to a Tonight card so overnight conditions lead.
Plain-Language Summaries
Every forecast comes with a short, readable outlook — something like "Clouding over through the afternoon with showers arriving by evening" — instead of only raw numbers. On supported devices these are written privately on your device by on-device AI; nothing is sent to a server, and they work offline. Turn them on in Settings.
Precipitation Timing
When rain or snow is in the forecast, the outlook tells you roughly when to expect it — morning, afternoon, this evening, overnight — rather than just a percentage.
Weather Alerts
Active warnings, watches and advisories for Canadian locations, sorted by severity. A chip on the main screen tells you the moment something is in effect; tap it for the full Environment Canada text.
Live Radar
Animated radar loop powered by RainViewer, with adjustable overlay strength. See what's actually moving toward you.
Air Quality
Current AQI and PM2.5 fine-particle readings from Open-Meteo, updated with every refresh.
Comfort, Sun and Moon
Dew-point-based comfort assessment alongside the feels-like temperature. Sunrise, sunset and a sun-position arc for the day. Moon phase and moon times.
Daily Briefing
An optional notification at a time you choose, summarizing the day ahead for your saved location.
Multiple Locations
Save the places you care about and switch between them instantly. Tap the city name to jump straight to your list.
Opens Instantly
Your last forecast is cached on your device and drawn the moment the app opens, then refreshed in the background. No spinner while you wait for the network.
Privacy First
No accounts. No ads. No trackers. Your location is used only to fetch your weather — sent to the data providers (Open-Meteo, Environment and Climate Change Canada, RainViewer) for that purpose and cached on your device so the app opens instantly. It is never sold or used to profile you. On-device summaries stay on your device.
Data sources: Open-Meteo (forecast, air quality, geocoding), Environment and Climate Change Canada (alerts), RainViewer (radar). Not an official product of Environment and Climate Change Canada.
