Keycaps is a daily word puzzle with one rule: you get a starting letter and an ending letter, and any real word that fits between them counts. S···M? STEAM fits. So does SLAM. So does SERUM. There is no hidden answer to guess, so two people can finish the same puzzle without a single word in common.

It is a word game you can learn in ten seconds and keep on your phone for years.

THE DAILY
Five keypairs a day: five pairs of letters, the same five for everyone. Solve them, keep your streak going, and see where your score lands against everyone else who played today. Share a card that gives none of the words away.

ADVENTURE
A solo campaign that doesn't run out. Worlds of ten levels, each world with a look of its own, and a computer opponent waiting at the tenth. The levels don't only get harder — they change what is being asked of you. Beat a target before the clock runs down, hold out as long as you can, or get through a run of keypairs without missing once.

AN OFFLINE WORD GAME, GENUINELY
Every solo mode works with no connection at all — the dictionary sits on your phone, not on a server. No wifi on the plane, no signal on the train, no problem.

A WORD GAME WITH FRIENDS
Five ways to play with other people, depending on who is near you:

- Pass one phone back and forth. Solve a set together, or play two player head-to-head.
- Sit together with no wifi and no signal at all, and play over Bluetooth. Up to eight of you.
- Open an online room, also up to eight.
- Challenge a friend with a six-letter code, a link or a QR code, then take turns whenever you each get a minute.
- Or get matched with whoever is next in the queue.

None of it needs an account.

LEADERBOARDS
Three ways to be scored — Letter Score, Longest Word and First Word — with more on the way. Any leaderboard can be narrowed from the whole world down to your rivals: the people you have played before and kept. Hi-score standings start over regularly, so a slow week never follows you around, while adventure and endless standings are all-time.

THE ALPHABET AND SEAMS
Two fixed tours with no clock on them — a spelling and vocabulary workout at your own pace. The Alphabet is thirteen keypairs that use all twenty-six letters exactly once. Seams is twenty same-letter keypairs, from S···S up to the F···F that ends it.

BUILT LIKE A KEYBOARD
Every button on screen is a keycap. Every mode has its own switch color. Every theme is a set of keycaps — a colorway — and there are nineteen today, with more still being drawn: three are yours from the start, and the other sixteen are earned by playing. Ten of those come from Sanzo Wada's A Dictionary of Color Combinations, published in 1933. Pick one keyboard for daytime and another for night, and the whole app follows.

HOW IT FEELS
Every key press thocks. Set your own switch weight, from feather-light to heavy. Keycap confetti when you finish. High-contrast mode is built in.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no sign-up, no email address. Leaderboards use three arcade initials, or a Play Games name if you would rather show one. Nothing else about you is ever asked for.

FREE TO PLAY, WITH ADS
Keycaps is free, and ads are what pay for it — but never while you are playing. If you would rather not see them at all, a single purchase removes them for good. Same game, bought once instead of watched.

KEYCAPS+
An optional subscription. No ads anywhere. As many hints and second chances as you want, instead of the few a day everyone else gets. And two streak saves a month, so a missed day does not have to end a long run. Monthly or annual, cancel whenever. It sells tools, never advantages: every colorway is still earned by playing, and no amount of money will unlock one.
