Internet Backup for Your Home Router

ViaLinx.io provides temporary Internet backup connectivity for a compatible and authorized home router when its regular broadband connection becomes unavailable.

The app pairs with the user's home router over the router's own Wi-Fi network and allows the phone's cellular connection to provide backup Internet connectivity until the router's normal broadband connection is restored.

Why the App Uses Android VpnService

Android VpnService is a core technical requirement of the app's Internet failover functionality. It creates the virtual network interface required by the phone-side backup-connectivity and traffic-forwarding implementation, and it gives the app the ability to bind its backup network sockets to the phone's cellular connection while the router's Wi-Fi has no working Internet.

The VPN functionality is used only to provide connectivity services for an authorized, paired router. The app is not a general-purpose privacy, anonymous-browsing, location-changing, or content-unblocking VPN. There are no VPN server locations to choose from.

The VPN starts only after the user reviews the in-app disclosure, provides consent, and approves Android's system VPN permission.

What Traffic Is Handled

- Only backup traffic belonging to the paired, authorized router is carried. The app accepts a backup request only from a router the user has paired and that is authorized for this device.
- Your personal phone activity is not routed through the VPN. The virtual network interface is created as a per-application interface limited to this app, and it is configured with a single reserved documentation address route rather than a default route, so no browsing traffic from your phone or from any other app is carried over it.
- The router's backup traffic is carried to the operator's backup gateway over the phone's cellular connection. Depending on how the paired router is configured, the app either runs the WireGuard tunnel to that gateway on the phone, or forwards the router's own already-encrypted WireGuard datagrams onward without holding the router's keys.
- The app does not inspect, filter, modify, or store the contents of the traffic it carries. Only byte counters are recorded, and they are used for the monthly data-cap limit you configure.

When Backup Starts and Stops

- After pairing, the app waits in a standby state so the router can reach it on the local network.
- Backup starts when the paired router reports that its broadband connection is down.
- Backup stops when the router reports that its broadband connection is restored, when your configured monthly data cap is reached, or when you disconnect or unpair from within the app.

Diagnostics

To monitor the backup service the app collects limited operational data: cellular signal quality and carrier, device model, operating system and app version, battery level, and backup data usage. Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) is read on the device only to confirm that you are connected to your own router; it is not included in the data sent to the operator's service.

The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. Traffic carried for the router is not sold, monetised, or used for advertising.

Requirements

- A compatible, ViaLinx.io-enabled home router that has been authorized for your account.
- An active cellular data plan on the phone. Backup connectivity consumes cellular data from that plan.
- Android VPN permission, granted by you after the in-app disclosure.

You can review the VPN and Internet-backup disclosure again at any time from Settings, and you can turn Internet backup off by disconnecting or unpairing in the app or by revoking the VPN permission in Android settings.
