R-3D-2 is a tool aimed at professional users - such as engineers, designers, sales people, quality control, realtors, surveyors, archaeologists - who need to obtain a 3D reconstruction model from either video or a series of images for applications such as reverse engineering, monitoring construction progress, archaeologists, sales, remote sensing, etc.
The camera has a number of modes for maximum flexibility: automatic, manual, macro and infinity. Moreover, the camera can lock the current aperture to avoid sudden changes in light conditions in the images. You can only create 10 projects during the trial period, capture and display can be done using a smartphone or camera and then imported into the app, in this version only support 640x480 resolution of video or images, while the processing is done by a powerful dedicated server (visit www.r-3d-2-com for examples, manuals and technical support). We provide users with a range of parameters that can be adjusted in order to obtain the best 3D reconstruction possible, as well as advice as to how best to do 3D reconstruction depending on the circumstances, ranging from obtaining .obj to terrain reconstruction to be compared to a digital elevation model for construction, agriculture or mining purposes.
We have now ported our optical system calibration module and distortion correction module for the smartphone camera. This will facilitate integration from multiple cameras. Soon, we will add this facility to the site itself with a more advanced capability.
The trial version has a licence of 30 days, when the trial period has finished, the app will be unable to be used anymore, and you can download your projects.
Important Notice: if your phone does not seem to work using this app, it may well be that we do not have your phone specification on our list. Please, email us your phone make and model and we shall include it on our list asap!

Useful utilities currently include functions to:
* Extract a segment of MP4 videos.
* Join MP4 videos obtained from the same source.
* Extract constituent frames from a videos.
* Convert video in a wide range formats to MP4.
* Import images/video to currently selected project
* Export images/video from current project to SD card.
* Camera calibration and distortion correction modules.
* An enhanced-depth-of-field module for combining multiple images is now available on the server.
* Now able to produce 3D digital models from LWIR images.
In the server we have now added some other useful utilities:
* Image processing module.
* Image masking.
* Enhanced depth of field.
* Super-resolution.
* Object editor able to delete undesired artefacts.
* Conversion to STL format in the editor module.
The resolution of MP4 videos is 640x480 in the trial version.
3D reconstruction from video/images is now a mature and extremely useful technology, though it can be challenging to obtain good results where the object/terrain is large, illumination cannot be controlled, under vibration, where multiple videos exist of an object of interest, with partial or temporary occlusions, etc. in which case a substantial amount of pre-processing might be necessary prior to the 3D reconstruction process, which can be tricky without a tool like R-3D-2!
Note: to calibrate the camera, please, download and print the pattern from the server.
