One of the biggest problems someone who doesn’t speak English in the United States encounters on a daily basis is not feeling like they belong, and having the inability to communicate with others. This sensitivity is heightened when one is in need of medical support but is unable to effectively communicate with a caregiver. Triage Translator aims to fix this problem, by providing a visual, easy to use, mobile app to facilitate the communication process. Our app goes through the process of a common triage, focusing on one or multiple body regions and recognizing symptoms and the duration/level of pain. Once this information is filled out by the person wishing for assistance, the information is translated back into English and the problems can be resolved. This information can then be shared through various apps to expand the search for help or for future reference. Doing this electronically cuts down the cost and difficulty of finding an interpreter, bringing faster results and a greater number of people who can help.

Triage Translator is specially engineered to facilitate the communication process in medical-related situations between a non English-speaking person and their English-speaking medical aid. Our app takes the first step to completing this process with a basic triage, or a quick assessment of the body to be translated into English. Our app could be used anywhere the need arises, perhaps at a daycare, school, doctor’s office, or at the scene of an emergency. No matter where it is used or who it is used by, Triage Translator’s primary goal is to help. Our app Our app is specifically designed with as many visual components as possible to better communicate with people of all ages and ethnicities, and has the capability to translate a variety of symptoms, assisting greatly in the triage process. By addressing this problem, we aim to reduce the time it takes to triage people in need.
