Batik is a pictorial cloth and peroses the making specifically in the picture or put a motive into a cloth that is still empty, and then through the process khusu so have a characteristic on the cloth. Batik Indonesia, the entire engineering, technology, and development of related motives and cultures, by UNESCO has been designated as a Humanitarian Heritage for Oral and Nonbendawi Culture since October 2, 2009.
Although the word "batik" comes from the Java language, Batik's birth in Java itself is not listed. G.P. Rouffaer discovers batik techniques likely to be introduced from India or Sri Lanka in the 6th or 7th century.
On the other hand, J.L.A. Brandes (Dutch archaeologist) and FA Sutjipto (Indonesian historian) believe that batik tradition is originally from regions such as Toraja, Flores, Halmahera, and Papua.
It should be noted that the area is not an area influenced by the Hinduism, but in it has an ancient tradition in making batik.
