The IP code is the coding system to indicate the degrees of protection.

The enclosures of electrical equipment must provide protection against direct electrical contacts of people and protection of the equipment itself against ingress of solid and liquid environmental agents (IP Code) avoiding deterioration that may affect the safety of users or operation and longevity of the apparatus.

THE dódigo consists of the letters IP followed by two digit numbers and sometimes one or two optional letters that provide additional information.

When the degree corresponding to one of the figures protection is not required because it is not necessary or because it is not known, it is replaced by "X".

Code letters (International Protection)
First figure characteristic (digits 0 to 6, or letter X)
Second figure characteristic (figures 0-8, or letter X)
Additional letter (optional) (letters A, B, C, D)
Supplementary letter (optional) (letters H, M, S, W)

The first characteristic numeral indicates simultaneously
1. the protection of persons against access to hazardous parts by preventing or limiting the penetration of a body part or an object taken by a person.
2. protection of materials against the penetration of solid bodies.
The first digit can take a value between 0 and 6, a higher value indicates greater protection against solid bodies smaller.

The second characteristic numeral indicates the degree of protection provided by enclosures with respect to harmful effects on the equipment due to the penetration of water.
