The Point Load Test Application was designed to be used in conjunction with a GCTS Wireless Point Load Testing System. This application allows the user to easily perform and record data for a point load test by connecting wirelessly with the GCTS Point Load Testing System through Bluetooth.

All steps of test preparation can be easily read and transmitted to the application for ease-of-use. The operator can place a calibrated specimen in the cell of the Point Load Testing System for calibration of the crosshead position. The application uses a two-point calibration for the crosshead position.

Using this application, specimen measurements can be made with ease. By simply placing the specimen in the apparatus as shown in the application and applying a small load, the application will automatically calculate the dimension of the specimen. This App can be used with diametral, axial, or irregular specimens. In addition, the application can be set to reuse certain dimensions, so if a core sample is used, the application can be set to use the same diameter for each specimen tested.

The operator can also define a custom equation for determination of the unconfined compressive strength from the point load strength index as calculated by the test. The application will automatically graph the load versus equivalent core diameter and automatically calculate the unconfined compressive strength for the rock specimen.

New specimen dimensions are automatically measured and recorded as well as starting a new test using a load value threshold. After performing a test, the application will automatically record the data and begin a new test. This allows many tests to be completed in the same time it would normally take for one test to be performed on a standard device, as all data recording is performed by the application. Once testing is complete, the results are easily tabulated and can be emailed directly from the application as a Microsoft Excel TM spreadsheet. Test results are also saved in the application for later viewing.

This application must connect once to a GCTS Wireless Point Load Testing System before it can be used. Once it has connected to a system, the application may be opened and data may be viewed from any location. The PLT-2W itself stores all the calibration and conversion factors, making it convenient to switch devices at any time to perform a test.
