If you're looking for a great garden-themed craft activity you can do with the kids, consider topiary shapes. This is fun and easy to do with children of most any age. First, you need to gather your supplies. Then follow the simple instructions to making your own topiary shapes.

You will need:

- About 1 yard of wire
- Fuse wire and fine wire scraps
- Pot(s)
- Small climbing plants
- Paper
- Pencil
- Wire cutters
- Plant ties
- Scissors
- Beads and decor

The best wire choice is heavy duty garden wire because it won't rush and it bends easily without breaking but is durable enough for this project. When you've gathered all of your materials, you want to set up your topiary design.

You can use paper and pencil to draw the shape you want to use. If you're not good at drawing things like this freehand, you might use stencils. Now bend a piece of wire into the shape you have prepared. Leave some extra wire of about 10 inches on each end. This is what you're going to put it into the pot.

Put the wire in your pot and pull the extra wire through the holes in the bottom of the pot. Now fill your pot with pieces of broken pot and soil, etc. Plant your climbing plants and wrap them around the wire. As they continue to grow, they will grow up the wire into the shape you have designated.

You can also decorate the pot with extra wire and the beads and other decor you have collected. Now that you know how to make topiary shapes, you can try this garden craft activity with your own children.
