The Framingham score is used to estimate the risk of cardiovascular events in patients without manifest atherosclerotic disease (cardiovascular, cerebrovascular or peripheral).

The score stratifies the risk of death from coronary heart disease, nonfatal myocardial infarction, angina, ischemic stroke or hemorrhagic fatal or non-fatal, transient ischemic attack, intermittent claudication and heart failure in 10 years.

Classification is arbitrarily divided into three risk categories: low risk (less than 10%), intermediate risk (between 10% and 20%) and high risk (over 20%).

It is recommended to estimate the risk in men over 45 and women over 55 with no history of cardiovascular disease.
