The term 'wetlands' the Ramsar Convention states: 'swamps, bogs, marshes or other bodies of water natural or artificial, permanent and not, with fresh water, brackish or salt, or current stops'. These ecosystems are home to a specialized flora of great ecological or phytogeographical.

In the Apuan Alps they are infrequent, due to the prevalence of very permeable limestone substrates that do not allow significant ponding of water, there are also some examples of wetlands, which today have become very delicate, preserving plants have become rare, threatened or vunerabili.

The Marshes of Fociomboli is the best known and most extensive wetland, occupying about an acre a shelf elliptical that was the bed of a basin Würmian well preserved in the typical forms, the flora is rich in species, including three rare orchids, Dactylorhiza incarnata , Epipactis palustris and the glacial relict Herminium monorchis, present in the Apennines in the station alone Fociomboli.
Near Mount Tontorone, a small wetland is home to the only station apuana of Menyanthes trifoliata, the small wetland Gorfigliano in Garfagnana hosts a large population of the rare Epipactis palustris; ricodate are also areas of Puntato and the mouth of Mosceta, in Retrocorchia, and two marsh areas now almost in its residual in M. Palodina.
In the park you can observe marsh species in other small areas, linked to sources, dripping water, ditches, etc.., As the slender Anagallis tenella, Osmunda regalis, and bryophytes of the genus Sphagnum, which are present in nearly 20 stations.

On the basis of bibliographic data and direct measurements have been selected 123 species linked to moist places in the Park. The guide aims to bring the hiker and passionate to a greater knowledge of the marsh plants and make it more and more aware of their value and the need for their conservation.
The guide has been produced in collaboration with the Project Dryades, coordinated by the Department of Life Sciences, University of Trieste, within the Project of conservation and enhancement of biodiversity in wetlands of the three regional parks of Tuscany, financed by the Ministry of 'Environment (Projectuality CIPE 19/2004).
