Ever got annoyed on the fact that you lost your data connectivity and didn't realize it for a long period of time causing delayed message and email delivery ?
Do you always switch ON and OFF your WiFi each and every time you enter and leave your configured WiFi range and wondered why can't I have a Smart WiFi controller on a Smart Phone to save power ?
Here is a simple solution for both the above questions - Deeps Network Utility.
This simple, configurable and low on battery utility helps you to get notified when your device lose all type of data connectivity (cellular, WiFi etc) and when your device is connected back to any one of those available data connection.
This utility also has a Smart WiFi function that helps you to turn off your WiFi when you are out of range and periodically checks for any available connection when it is automatically switched off. This feature helps you save battery when you are out of WiFi range and helps you to connect back to WiFi when you are back to a pre-configured WiFi range.
Configuring the app
The settings page is opened when the app is first time installed and launched on a device. It can also be activated by tapping on the settings icon or by selecting Settings from the menu.
There are two portions in the settings namely: Network Status Monitor (notifications) and WiFi Auto Switcher (Smart WiFi).
The Network Status Monitor is to enable the notifications, select the notification sounds and enable saving/logging of connection lost/restored events. Enable and set unique notification sounds for the notifications so that you can quickly recognise the event without looking at the screen. If no notification sound is selected or selected sound becomes unavailable, the default notification sound from the system settings will be used.
The Smart WiFi settings allows you to configure the app for auto switch off and auto scan of the device WiFi.
Enable the auto switch off and set a wait time (recommended 2 minutes) to switch off WiFi. This setting allows the device WiFi to be active until the specified time before automatically switching it off. This wait time allows the device to connect back to the WiFi immediately if the device was briefly out of range for a short period.
Enable auto scan and set the scan interval (recommended between 10 and 15 minutes). This setting allows the device to briefly turn on the WiFi at the end of each scan interval to check if any of the pre-configured WiFi signal is available for connection. If nothing is available the WiFi is switched off to save power.
Please note that setting a too short scan interval (like 1 minute) might not really help to save power. However, an interval of 10 or 15 minutes would do so as the total time the device WiFi is enabled during each hour is much much less than that of keeping the WiFi always on or setting a one minute interval.
How this app helps you ?
The network status monitor helps you to get notified immediately when your data connectivity is totally lost. You can immediately take next course of action by checking your device and doing a restart or a toggle between airplane mode to reconnect the data. Saving the event log helps you to see how many times these events are occurring each day and other details.
The Smart WiFi helps you to automatically switch off and on your WiFi when configured correctly. This takes away the pain of doing it manually every time when you leave your home or office and returns. You can configure the app and forget about switching on and off the device WiFi manually.
Notes:
There might be some delay in notification compared to the actual time the event occurs. This is because of the delay in the system when the event information was relayed to the app.
After enabling and configuring the timing for WiFi auto switch off and auto scan, if the device WiFi was manually switched off, the auto scan will not turn it on again until the device is restarted or the WiFi is enabled manually again.
