Pockupation connects adults who need help with odd jobs with trustworthy young “pocketeers” in their local area.

This app was created by Chand (14), Enya (14), Erin (13) and Abigail (14), students at the Abbey School in Reading, Berkshire. The team felt frustrated because there are no job finding services tailored to the needs of young job seekers. They believe there are lots of hardworking and reliable young people who would be keen to help out their neighbours while earning some pocket money.

FEATURES

- Post and find odd jobs, like dog walking, babysitting, plant watering, washing up, car cleaning and more
- Find people and jobs in your local area - great for teens without transport or adults who want local help
- Build trust and connections through trust ratings and reviews
- Ensure safety for under 18’s, with emails sent to parents to make sure they are aware of their children’s commitments and the details of the job
- Keep track of all the jobs you have posted or accepted

Pockupation was developed as part of the Apps for Good programme and won the “Saving, Spending and Giving – making the most from your money” category sponsored by Barclaycard at the Apps for Good Awards 2013, the national app competition for young people across the UK. As an Apps for Good Award winner, the team worked with development agency Fuerte to have their app prototype built professionally and publicly launched, with the support of Apps for Good and Barclaycard.

Apps for Good is an education movement where young people learn to create apps that change the world. Apps for Good partners with educators across the UK to deliver its course to young people 10-18 years of age.
