Kampung kecil ini terletak kira-kira 20 km daripada Pekan Sabak dan 25 km daripada Pekan Sungai Besar yang terletak dalam daerah Sabak Bernam, Selangor. Secara politiknya terbahagi kepada 2 iaitu Cawangan Parit Baru Pekan dan Cawangan Teluk Belanga. Nama-nama seperti Teluk Belanga dan Pachitan juga adalah merujuk kepada sebahagian kariah-kariah yang terdapat dalam Kampung Parit Baru Pekan.
Dikelilingi kebun kelapa, kelapa sawit dan pisang, pekan ini menjadi tumpuan petani dan pekebun kecil bagi mendapatkan barang keperluan asas mereka. Majoriti penduduk berbangsa Melayu dan beragama Islam dari keturunan Jawa. Terdapat juga penduduk Melayu dari suku Mandailing, Rawa, Banjar dan Kampar. Terdapat sedikit kaum Cina yang kebanyakannya menjadi nelayan, peraih dan peruncit. Kegiatan ekonomi lain ialah menangkap ikan.
Meskipun agak terpencil namun di sinilah terletaknya beberapa institut pendidikan yang terkenal seperti Institut Latihan Dakwah Selangor (ILDAS), Politeknik Sultan Idris, Institut Perakaunan Negara (IPN), dan Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi (SBPI). Sejajar dengan penyusunan semula masyarakat dan pertempatan, satu kawasan baru untuk aktiviti masyarakat telah dibuka di Tanah Lesen, kira-kira 1 km daripada pekan lama. Terdapat dewan, pasar, bangunan kedai dan kemudahan rekreasi di situ. Selain itu tapak pekan sehari yang asalnya diadakan di tepi jalan raya juga telah berpindah ke Tanah Lesen . Pekan sehari diadakan pada hari Khamis manakala pasar malam pula diadakan pada hari Sabtu. Selain itu terdapat juga kemudahan gelanggang futsal dan sepak takraw untuk kemudahan belia-belia Parit Baru untuk berekreasi. Terdapat juga sebuah pusat internet desa yang menyediakan kemudahan ict untuk penduduk kampung. Sebagaimana kampung-kampung yang lain, Kampung Parit Baru juga mempunyai sebuah sekolah kebangsaan iaitu Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Baru, Sekolah Rendah Agama Parit Baru, Sekolah Agama Menengah Parit Baru, sebuah masjid (Masjid Al-Ma'rufiah) ,sebuah pusat kesihatan besar (Pusat Kesihatan Besar Parit Baru), Pusat haiwan, Pejabat Pertanian dan Pondok Polis Komuniti.
